RA472: Rasyova Volcano by Eliasome RA472: Rasyova Volcano by Eliasome
This volcano is actually a complex at least three different active peaks situated in a massive caldera from a prehistoric volcanic explosion.  The main floor of the caldera contains several freshwater lakes; the two largest are visible: Lake Tikhoye (left) and Lake Beloye (right). Growing in the foreground is the incredibly hardy "Siberian dwarf pine" (Pinus pumila) which is essentially impossible to walk through; all of the darker green patches visible in the frame consist of this amazing ankle breaker.  The Pacific Ocean is seen in upper right (due north is center left).

More info about the volcano can be found here (from the Global Volcanism Program website): 290220

This photo is one of a series that I took during an expedition to a large chain of volcanic islands that separate the Sea of Okhotsk from the northwestern Pacific Ocean. Please see the corresponding Gallery for detailed information on the archipelago and to see the other photos from the series.

Since Pluto has been downgraded to dwarf status, I'd have to agree.

Although, technically, it's a somma complex with a some great hot springs, fumaroles, and pyroclastic cones in seemingly odd places.

Thanks so much, my dear friend!  This island had very many Ainu people living there before contact with Europeans.  Over 40 dwellings have been documented.  In 1875, the Japan forcibly relocated them to a different island just off the coat of northern Hokkaido.
